Good unit... while it lasts.Feb 03, 2011
By Brent Efune
"wearer of shoes (sometimes)"
I've just sent back my second one of these units. The first one died within the first month and the second one is now having issues starting up. Seems to be an issue with the power source, as some (ok, a lot of) unplugging and replugging so far has helped to fix the issue. Once the unit actually turns on, it works pretty well. WAY more power than my onboard (or cheap, cheap internal rocketfish 7.1 via ebay) and sound production seems to be pretty decent, especially for such a cheap unit. I used mine primarily for headphone use (grado sr80's, sennheiser hd238, hd555's and sony 7506's) and was satisfied.
Anyways, i'm not risking another one of these units, i'm just going to get something else. So, if you get a functioning unit, you got yourself a 5-star product (especially when you factor in price). However my experience with 2 duds should definitely be taken into account.

+1 for RefurbishedNov 26, 2010
By Charles Just reaffirming the other reviews on this product.
If you're going for a brand new unit, then heed these reviews and PLEASE DON'T PURCHASE THIS.
This is a refurbished unit, branded as new on the Amazon product page. I blame Creative for this, and not Amazon. Opened the box, and although everything looks good and I'm sure it performs well, this is not what I ordered.
Returning my unit immediately.

Bad DriversFeb 13, 2011
By DigiStudio Bought this card for recording podcast - to upgrade the mic input and to add line-in for my laptop. Tried it on a couple XP laptops - windows recognized the device, but Windows built-in drivers do not allow recording (mic/line-in unavailable). Had to install Creative drivers that came with tonns of bloat (Creative auto-update insisted on downloading and installing a bunch of bloatware apps that it listed as Critical). Warning!!!! - Creative drivers on Win XP cause CPU to lock-up for almost a minute every time I adjusted the volume knob. On dual-core Vista PC - moving volume knob also caused CPU- to spike up for about 15 seconds. I could do without using the volume knob, but when I tried recording, I also ran in to problems with delays, pops and crack that I did not have with any of my built-in sound cards. Read other reviews and you'll see many of the same complaints. Creative needs to get their act together!

WARNING! REFURBISHED!Aug 07, 2010
By SlickRick Title says it all, however it works flawlessly and is just what I wanted. Gorgeous surround sound for my logitech X-540 system. Bad Company 2 has never sounded better and I highly recommend this if you are looking for an upgrade from on-board sound.
Running on Win7 Ultimate x64 without any problems, but one word of advice...DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED CD TO INSTALL DRIVERS! Go to creative's site and download the up-to-date ones there OR YOUR COMPUTER WILL CRASH AND BURN! You have been warned. Peace.
