Had some concern, but, Amazon Customer Service to the rescueAug 23, 2012
By C. Curtis I have been using A Microsoft LX-3000 headset for about 3.5 years until the microphone went out recently. This product is higher rated on most comarison websites, so I thought I would give it a try.
I like the headset pretty well, the sound is very good. I'd say a little better than my old set. Everyone on Vent says the mic works well and is very clear without a lot of background noise. The set rests more comfortably on my head than the LX I used before thanks to the padded rest. The anti-tangle cord actually seems to work. It hasn't tangled on me yet, and I use a swivel office chair. The in line volume and mute controls are lighter weight on the cord than my old set, are natural to use, and function well.
The software that comes with the set is functional, and fun. It only took me a few minutes after downloading, installing, and updating the software to be up and running. The people I talk to in Vent got quite a kick out of the voice changing effects. I found a preset for the online game I play and the sound was almost perfect for me on that setting. Making the small adjustment to the volumes was simple and easy to find in the software.
The only issues so far are:
I am used to a swing boom mic that I can swivel out of the way quickly to get a drink or a bite to eat and swing the mic back down to talk. I cannot do this with the fixed mic. The mic is flexible and I can bend it down out of the way and then back up, but I find I am fidgeting with it to get it back in the sweet spot. This is a minor issue and I'm sure after using it for a while getting it back in place will be second nature. You can unplug it and plug it back in, but I find that more hastle than bending it back and forth. I hope all that bending doesn't cause premature failure.
The ear muffs do not breath as well as my old set, so I notice a little sweating, but not excessive. Keep in mind, this is after about 4 hours of use in August 90+ degree days.
Order and pay for sigma, receive alphaAug 10, 2012
By Jacob I received the wrong product. I ordered a sigma and received an alpha. This is not acceptable. I've searched Creative's site and can't find a number to call and I don't see any way to contact them through Amazon. It seems my only option is to return the package (at my expense) or do a chargeback.
An Honest ReviewAug 07, 2012
By Saul Hernandez First of all, I'd like to state that I enjoy the quality of this headset. It feels as though it is of sturdy construction and is very comfortable even though I have a large head and wear glasses. My shipping was also expedient as I requested. However, my enjoyment of the headset ends there. This headset, even though marketed as compatible with Windows 7, is clearly not. Mind you, the output is fine. I use the headset for music and gaming. It is the microphone that causes such a hassle. It simply does not work. Initially, I chalked this up to some sort of hardware issue. However, there is no defect in the microphone. I plugged it straight into my 3.5mm jack to test it, and lo and behold, it worked fine. Five Google searches and one hour later, I've discovered that I am not the only person with this issue. As a matter of fact, it seems that there is a larger amount of Windows 7 users with this same issue than without. I've deducted one star from my initial assessment of four for this issue. My experience thus far with customer service leave much to be desired as well. I sent an email four days ago asking for some remedy to this issue or possibly an exchange for a headset that does not share this Windows 7 incompatibility. However, I have not received any sort of response, be it automated or otherwise. For this, I have deducted another star from my initial assessment of four. If you have Windows 7, my suggestion would be to invest in a different headset, at least until this microphone compatibility issue has been sorted.
tl;dr +Pros Comfy headset with good construction Fast shipping -Cons Poor compatibility with Windows 7 Poor customer support (thus far)
